FreemanWhite Senior Living Design Captures DesignCenter Feature with Givens Estates

Charlotte, N.C., October 17, 2007 - As America’s largest home, George Vanderbilt’s renowned Biltmore Estate boasts “Four of the most fascinating acres in Asheville, North Carolina under one roof.” Interestingly, the recent expansion of Givens Estates can easily counter this claim.

“Eight of the most caring acres under one roof in Asheville, NC.”
(Givens Estates’ Oxford Commons = 355,250 sq. ft.)

The above DesignCenter introduction to Givens Estates $60 million expansion is only part of the FreemanWhite story that captured the attention of Nursing Homes (Long Term Care Management) magazine for August 2007.
The Givens Estates expansion included Oxford Commons with 137 apartments as well as 59 cottages in three variations. Within the Oxford Commons community building, there are also multiple dining venues including a Café/Bistro, fine dining, private dining and al fresco dining on the terrace. The Wellness Center includes an indoor pool with an extensive array of exercise equipment accompanied by numerous fitness programs including yoga and tai chi. The Performing Arts Center seats up to 350 people and has the audio-visual equipment capabilities to meet the needs of all types of programs from plays, concerts and meetings to book fairs, arts shows and even dances.
As a Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC), Givens Estates also includes the entire continuum of care---or can be considered “a community for all seasons of care” according to its designer Steve Chomick, AIA, Director of Design.
As America’s largest home, the Biltmore House boasts 250 rooms, 34 bedrooms and 43 bathrooms as well as 65 fireplaces. While Givens Estates might come up a fireplace or two short, it’s possible that with its new chapel, expanded library, bank, and unique activity areas which includes space for pottery, painting, games, billiards, computer lab and business center it may provide Biltmore House with some real competition in terms of modern day livability - not to speak of its healthcare guarantees.
